Building The Ultimate Van Life Kitchen With Neill Drake

While compact camping gear is designed primarily for the trails, having a complete mobile kitchen that can fit in a small day bag has more benefits than just getting lost in nature. I've been rebuilding my van at a shop on Chile for the last two months and the only food nearby is Pollo Asado and mediocre Chinese food. After a week or so of those two...it got real old, real quick.

We a busted out the Optimus cookware one day to try something new, and it's the only way we cook now. We can be a little healthier than french fries or fried rice, and mix up our variety. The Nova makes it easy to always have fuel on hand because it takes all sorts of gas, and having a hardware store nearby that carries white gas has been outrageously convenient. The water supply in Chile is considered to be good, but it can take some people time to adjust to. Having the Katadyn BeFree bottles are a simple way to have fresh water on hand and I always keep my Katadyn Base Camp 10L hanging so I can easily fill my dogs bowl; he likes you to hang it at the shop too. The versatility of the Optimus line has really taking the guess work out of wondering where my meals will come from and the Katadyn water systems have made it so all my clean water problems are behind me.

While Chile is known for having safe drinking water, it's never a bad idea to use a Katadyn BeFree. Keeping a hanging Base Camp Pro 10L is an easy way to make sure Hurley and I have fresh water.

The guys at the shop hate walking the whole 60 feet to the water tap, so I keep a Base Camp up for them. The Optimus Nova is perfect for the shop. We have all sorts of liquid fuels in the shop it can burn. I am not a morning person so having some easy to make smoothies is perfect for me.
