Katadyn Response To Hurricane Florence

Katadyn Response To Hurricane Florence

Katadyn has had the privilege of partnering with World Hope International to provide clean water to communities in need all around the world. When disaster struck close to home, we were ready and glad to respond. In this blog, Katadyn and World Hope are proud to report on efforts your donations and purchases have helped make possible.

Katadyn takes corporate social responsibility seriously. The value of giving back to the world in a variety of ways is of utmost importance to the mission of the Katadyn Group. This is why Katadyn is serious about supporting social and ecological projects that encourage children and youth or help protect the environment.

As you read on, it's important to clarify that in these efforts, the people and projects are always the most important factor to us. Katadyn helps out of conviction and not for image. In the following recap and report, please hear our sincerest thank you for playing a role in making this possible. Your purchases help fund these kinds of projects. Also, please direct attention and support to the efforts of World Hope International, who dedicate all of their time to projects like this and many, many more around the globe.

First Response and Quick Action

In responding to natural disaster, quick action is absolutely crucial. Within just days, Katadyn and World Hope had gear ready to ship out of D.C. to North Carolina.

Response items from Katadyn included:

- 4 Flight Ready Aquifers
- 1,000 2.5 Gallon Water Reservoirs.
- 3 Generators
- 1 Fully Stocked Deployment Kit.

In total, Katadyn brought more than 1,500 pounds of gear. The equipment would allow trained and self-sufficient teams to desalinate and purify thousands of gallons of water for residents of North Carolina.

Logistics and Partnerships

None of the Hurricane Florence relief efforts Katadyn participated in would have been possible without partnership. From coordination with World Hope to transportation with LIFT Non-Profit Logistics to distribution with local officials and everything in between, teamwork made it all happen.

Oak Island was the target for relief efforts. It was cut off from the mainland due flood and hurricane damage, but LIFT arranged for flight transportation of both gear and team members to the Cape Fear Regional Airport.

The Mayor and Emergency Manager of Oak Island met the aircraft on the tarmac at Cape Fear Regional Airport.

Once on the ground, a civilian and grassroots disaster response team called Carolina Cavalry provided a truck, trailer, and labor to get the gear where it needed to be.

The Fire Department provided extraordinary additional help with transportation, distribution of fresh water, and a secure location for gear.

Operations and Results

The dock at the Marina was determined to be the best water point location for Aquifer operations for this particular project.

In order to provide sufficient amounts of fresh water for residents of Oak Island, Katadyn operated four Aquifer systems. The stand-alone solar powered reverse osmosis filter system from Katadyn provides the absolute highest level of water purification possible and can make fresh water from any source--including contaminated salt water.

As Katadyn purification systems and teams were at work, the fire department, volunteers, and even the mayor herself (Cin Brochure, pictured below) were distributing water to people in need.
